Hope to Merritt
I cyled from Kawkawa Lake Road, at 42 meters (138 feet) for about 200 meters with and approximate 15% grade to Othello Road. Othello road had some 11% sections. Elevation gain was from another person's bike trip records and included all dips. Coquihalla summit (pass) is only 4068 feet, however there is a lengthy 8 to 10% grade section through a snow shed just before the summit. After the Coquihalla summitt there are basically two hills, Larson Hill and then a nearly steady hill up to just just before Merritt. I cycled to McDonald's on 3360 River Road, Merritt, 250-378-2170. I took the second Merritt exit to get there. We stayed at the Ramada Inn at 3571 Voght St (Hwy 5a) , V1K 1C5 250.378.3567.
There was NO drinking water at the Toll Booth. There is a rest area a few KM from Toll Booth (about 400 meters from highway which has drinking water). 2 X 1 1/2 liter water bottles should be OK for whole trip.Split Stats: Kawkawa Lake, Hope to Coquihalla Summit: T:2:30:27
